CLEAR SKIN MEANS VITAMINS
July 14th, 2009I have heard many complaints from patients concerning skin. Skin can boost or break a person’s confidence: no one wants to go out fearful that all others will see is the acne on his or her face. For this reason, many are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for the best skin cleansers and creams, and while skin care products can be beneficial, sometimes the cure is further than skin deep. In many instances, acne and other skin irritations, in many instances, can be prevented and alleviated through vitamins. Examining your vitamin deficiencies is key to healthy skin. Listed below are several different vitamins that can help you clear your skin according to your irritations.
Vitamin A concentrates in the epidermis and increases the number of skin cell receptors for the epidermis, and it can affect the skin in many ways:
· In many cases, doses of supplemental Vitamin A of 100,000 - 300,000 IU per day are generally used to clear Vitamin A deficiency in acne patients, but this requires caution as this is regarded as a very high (potentially toxic) dosage. You should consult your doctor before doing this.
· Deficiency can result in dry skin (especially on the elbows or arms) and ear abscesses
· Ingested orally and applied topically it can alleviate skin irritations including: boils, skin ulcers, dermatitis, and rashes
· Applied topically, Vitamin A may help to diminish the appearance of wrinkles
B1 (Thiamine)
· Helps prevent the cross-linking of collagen and elastin in the skin
· Supplemental Vitamin B1 (1,000 mg per day) may improve the visual appearance of the skin.
B2 (Riboflavin):
· Deficiency can result in skin that is particularly prone to sunburn
· Deficiency can result in angular stomatosis (cracks in the corner of the mouth)
· Deficiency can be linked to dermatitis - especially dermatitis of the vulva or scrotum
· Helps to eradicate dandruff
· Alleviates eczema
· Alleviates some cases of acne
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)
· Deficiency in Vitamin B6 can also result in skin that is prone to sunburn
· 50 mg per day for one week prior to and during menstruation may alleviate acne where the acne is related to pre-menstrual syndrome.
