Treatments at PATH Medical

Each patient at PATH will receive a customized treatment program, but a common feature all regimens share is the multi-modal process whereby the source of your illness is battled on a number of levels. This technique effectively and expediently defeats illness. Your treatment plan may include:

Medical

  • Nutritional supplementation
  • Prescription medication (at lowest dose for minimal duration)
  • Hormone replacement to correct deficiencies
  • Lifestyle changes: diet modification, exercise
  • Custom compounds

Psychological

  • EEG biofeedback : training to recognize brainwave activity, with the goal to deliberately alter certain waves to achieve a positive effect
  • Behavior modification : modify personality traits, enhance positive ones

Cranial Electrical Stimulation (CES)

Where psychological and physical healing merge: a pocket-sized device inputs gentle electrical currents into the brain via electrodes. The intensity is entirely controlled by the user. Approved by the FDA for use in anxiety, depression, and insomnia, it is now utilized to heal a number of other ailments associated with altered brainwave function. Feedback Training Techniques

Feedback training is a revolutionary new method by which individuals are trained to control their body's responses and correct them to assist in regaining wellness. Different types of biofeedback are described below:

EEG (electroencephalograph) neurofeedback training: PATH Medical regularly utilizes this treatment option for a variety of neurologically-based conditions such as ADD, anxiety, depression, memory difficulties, seizure disorders, and insomnia. PATH frequently recommends this modality if abnormalities are found through Brain Electrical Activity Mapping (BEAM). This technique uses a set of four electrodes, one of which is located at the target site for training skills. In order to provide feedback to the trainee, brainwave activity is displayed in real-time fashion on a computer screen. The clinician provides basic directions as to which waves require modification; the trainee finds the best method that suits him or her to achieve that goal.

Thermal (bloodflow) feedback: Utilized for a number of vascular disorders, including migraine headaches, Raynaud's disease, hypertension, and anxiety disorders. This modality promotes relaxation, particularly when used in conjunction with diaphragmatic breathing exercises. Thermal feedback promotes the vasodilation (opening of) the blood vessels in fingers and toes: this process allows increased blood flow to the extremities and increases skin temperature.

EMG (electromyography) feedback: This technique is useful for tension headaches, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD), muscle spasms, and chronic pain, as well as for relaxation purposes. EMG feedback allows the trainee to become alert for muscle tension in specific target muscles.

EDR (electrodermal) feedback: This technique is appropriate for treatment of hyperhydrosis (excessive hand sweating) and related dermatological conditions. EDR feedback measures skin conductivity through electrodes placed on the fingers and palms.

This graph is from an EEG neurofeedback session. This patient's chief complaints included anxiety, fatigue, depression, irritability, and panic attacks. Upon evaluation by a PATH licensed feedback clinician, this patient began EEG neurofeedback training to increase alpha waves. These waves are associated with focused relaxation - by increasing alpha waves, the patient induces a relaxed and calmer state. This graph shows the variation of alpha waves during a fourteen minute session.

Custom Compounding - for Individualized Nutritional Supplementation

Select pharmacies provide the service of manufacturing specially blended supplements when ordered via a doctor's script. These custom compounding pharmacies can take a regimen of multiple supplements and merge them into just two or three capsules. To accommodate special medical conditions, they also are able to obtain specialty supplements not found in your local drug store.
