In contrast, the diagnosis of adult GHD is complex. Adult GHD is part and parcel of the aging phenomenon as elegantly described by Dr. Eric Braverman as the “pause theory of aging”. In the pauses associated with aging, there are measurable objective parameters that are consistent, valid and interpretable in every decade of life. However, often by the time the deficits are usually noted, degenerative changes have already taken hold.

Adult GHD is accompanied by changing body composition with decreased lean muscle mass and increased total body fat, demineralization of bone resulting in osteoporosis, loose skin which translates to wrinkles, and decreased quality of life which includes decreased energy, decreased libido, poor sleep patterns, generalized malaise, and fatigue.
