Brain Health Assessments
BEAM (Brain Electrical Activity Map)
The brain is a complex network of nerve cells (neurons). These special cells relay messages between areas of the brain tasked with important functions such as cognition, memory, attention, perception, emotion, and processing external stimuli (such as what we see, hear, touch, smell, and taste).
When neurons fail to perform optimally, the entire network –the brain – may fail to function normally. Because the brain also signals and regulates the body in many ways, abnormalities that originate within the brain may contribute to or worsen physical illness anywhere in the body.
BEAM measures brain electrical activity. Dr. Braverman participated in the early research and development of this technology at Harvard Medical School. This critical test, which defines his 21st-Century Medicine, can be thought of as an EKG of the brain. Like the beating of the heart, during resting phases the beat (or frequency of the brainwave) is slower, whereas during arousal phases, the beat (frequency) increases. Brainwave functions measured include Speed, Power, Rhythm, and Symmetry.
BEAM is based on the electroencephalograph (EEG), but it samples on many more points for longer durations than the standard EEG. The BEAM computer will clear extraneous (artifact) measurements prior to collecting your data, and then process it via statistical analyses to report altered brain wave functions.

MBTI: TYPE AND TEMPERAMENT PERSONALITY TESTING
Self-report questionnaire that measures an individual’s personality type and temperament, used in our practice to help transform an individual, using insights from the tool to capitalize on behavioral strengths and improve weaknesses.
It is designed to increase our understanding of an individual’s beliefs and behaviors (personality and temperament). The information obtained from this test is used to discover how each unique personality type contributes to the individual’s performance, learn new ways to facilitate treatment and improve overall patient care and decision making by considering all points of view. Based on Dr. Carl Jung’s psychological theories and MBTI. |
WMS-III (WECHSLER MEMORY SCALE)
A standardized memory test measuring four different facets of memory, used to assess learning and memory. This test is done because difficulty with memory is a common complaint of most patients. It specifically measures:
- Auditory (Verbal) Memory: Ability to remember information immediately after oral presentation.
- Visual Memory: Ability to remember information immediately after visual presentation.
- Immediate Memory: Overall measure of immediate recall, ability to remember both visual and auditory information immediately after it is presented.
- Working Memory: High level attention/concentration, capacity to remember and manipulate both visually and orally presented information in short-term memory storage.
MILLON: CLINICAL MULTIAXIAL INVENTORY-III
Psychological assessment tool based on Dr. Theodore Millon’s theory of personality and clinical syndromes (psychopathology), the assessment helps measure 14 personality disorders and 10 clinical syndromes for adults 18+ undergoing psychological or psychiatric assessment or treatment. This self-report questionnaire is used to help develop a treatment approach guided by the patient’s personality characteristics.
Other tests are offered, though not administered on a regular basis. Specific tests are used when certain diagnoses are suspected.

NEUROMUSCULAR-SKELETAL REVIEW
Bone Density/DEXA Scan:
A chiropractic evaluation follows a DEXA full-body scan that assesses osteoporosis and body composition (fat vs. muscle). If necessary, peripheral, vascular and nervous system tests will be done. It is a fast and painless way to measure bone density (strength), and to evaluate bone mass. The most common areas are the hip, spine and sometimes the forearm.
The exam is non invasive and most patients remain fully clothed. Exposure to radiation is small, equaling 1/10th of the amount received from a chest x-ray, or the amount of naturally occurring background radiation encountered in one week. |
LABORATORY/BLOOD TEST ANALYSIS
Medical and Aging Markers:
250+ medical and aging markers are tested, including vitamin B6, iron, insulin level, calcitonin, pregnenolone, IGF-1, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, , fibrinogen, amylase, testosterone, progesterone, parathyroid hormone, vitamin D, protein C, vitamin B12, magnesium, beta carotene, plasma copper, creatinine, uric acid, and ammonia, among hundreds of others.

Exercise:
Exercise may be the number one predictor of longevity. A multitude of dining sins—including making poor food choices—can be rectified by exercise. Exercise, when used as part of a therapeutic plan can be integrated into various medical treatments.
Most people begin losing muscle mass between the ages of 30 and 40, and this loss will greatly contribute to intellectual decline, resulting in memory loss, attention disorders, and potentially negative cognitive functions. With hormone treatments and medical reversal of diseases, exercise can be the icing on the cake—as well as a substantial portion of that cake, if used properly. We will teach you the right intervals and procedures, and how to handle time management issues. You will learn prayer and meditation exercises to help relax an unsettled mind. And if you suffer from joint-related problems (achy joints, issues with knees, etc.), we will teach you how to use equipment, such as an elliptical trainer or a treadmill with an incline, that will be less taxing on your joints. Brain/mind/body fitness is a tool you will spend a lifetime mastering. There is virtually no illness that does not benefit in some way from some form of exercise. Moderate exercise, such as a brisk 30 minute walk can increase blood flow to the brain. Adults who exercise at least three times a week, keeping brain cells strong and efficient and keeping the body young, reduce their risk of developing dementia later in life by as much as 40%. |
