Testosterone is a naturally produced hormone that is more prevalent in men and is responsible for building muscle, burning fat, creating a healthy sex drive and providing an overall positive balance of mental and physical health.
Unfortunately, as men get older, the levels of natural testosterone production decrease and for most men this decline becomes more rapid from around the age of 30 and the rate of this decrease increases as we age.
For those of you who are looking to increase the levels of testosterone in the body, you may be aware of testosterone boosters. These products should not be compared to steroids or other synthetic substances that aim to imitate our growth hormones, and rather are seen as a safe alternative to such products as they aim to naturally increase the production of testosterone in the body.
Like all supplements (natural or not), there is a wide range of efficacy in how these T-boosters perform – so we have rounded up 7 of the best testosterone boosters available to buy online or over the counter.
All of the products we have reviewed have been tested by myself or members of the PathMed team and they all have one thing in common – they only include ‘all natural’ ingredients.
You can of course help to increase your testosterone levels through diet alone (and we certainly recommend taking supplements as part of a well balanced nutritional plan) but in order to make a significant difference to your natural testosterone production levels, you would find it hard to replicate the results that can be achieved with some of these T-booster supplements through diet alone.
So, let’s get to it and take a look at our 7 best testosterone boosters.
Anyone who is looking for the physical and mental benefits of an increased testosterone count should look no further than TestoPrime. This is a supplement that I have been aware of personally for over 12 months and is a product that I have tested professionally for the last 3 months.
The impact of TestoPrime for any male over the age of 30 who is concerned about low T-levels is likely to be fairly considerable and although the same can be said for most of the supplements we have reviewed on this page, none were quite so effective in terms of ‘all-round’ impact as TestoPrime.
Each capsule (of which you will take 4 per day) is packed full of 12 natural ingredients that are designed to naturally increase testosterone production in the body.
668mg of Ashwagandha extract, 8000mg of Panax Ginseng, 2000mg of D-Aspartic Acid and 800mg of Fenugreek top the bill of ingredients that also include Vitamin D, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B5, Green Tea Extract and Zinc.
Each ingredient is of course included for a very specific reason that either links to increased energy and stamina levels, an improved libido and sex drive, better muscle growth and a reduction in stress levels. These ingredients are all clinically backed and the company link to each clinically backed study from their website.
Their supplements are manufactured in the UK and the USA and are FDA approved with the manufacturing process taking place in GMP certified premises.
In testing, TestoPrime proved to be effective on the short to medium term and whilst we do not have enough data on the long term sustainability of increased testosterone levels, there is every reason to believe that through continued supplementation the results would be very positive.
I personally saw anecdotal improvements with much improved energy levels and a real sense of feeling less stressed. I was able to show improved performance when working out and made significant improvements to my physical appearance – with only minor tweaks to my diet while taking the supplement over a 3 month period.
Customer reviews of TestoPrime are also incredibly positive on the whole and the fact that I offer a lifetime money back guarantee is a testament to how much they back their own product.
The supplement ships globally and men all around the world have spoken as to the impact that this t-booster has had on their lives – so it does seem that the positive results we saw are replicated across the globe in men of all walks of life.
- Global free shipping
- Safe and natural ingredient profile
- No reported side effects
- Results are impressive
- Lifetime money back guarantee
- Excellent user reviews
- Needs to be taken for a few months to see full results
Why TestoPrime Is Our No.1?
TestoPrime is our best testosterone booster, being very closely followed by Testogen (read on for more on that). There are three key reasons for choosing TestoPrime in our top spot…
It’s a reputable brand – we have worked closely with TestoPrime over the last 12 months and have always been impressed by their commitment to delivering an excellent product with a top quality customer experience. Their lifetime money back guarantee is unmatched and speaks volumes of their belief in their product.
Results – although we tested these supplements with different people, the TestoPrime tester was by far and away the most impressed with the product. There were physical results that you could genuinely see and I too have personally used the product with good results. Their customer satisfaction levels are 98% positive and 74% state they would recommend it to a friend.
Value For Money – The cost of TestoPrime is fair compared to the other suppliers on the market. It has one of the best all-round ingredient stacks and is packed full of the good stuff. When you compare it to a protein supplement that has little nutritional value (other than protein of course) or to a multivitamin, it comes up trumps.
All in all – TestoPrime delivers and as a result is our number one choice for increasing testosterone.
TestoGen is another favorite of mine and is manufactured by a leading British nutrition company, Health Nutrition Limited.
The concept behind TestoGen is very similar to that of TestoPrime – which is essentially to pack their t-boosting supplements with highly impactful natural ingredients designed to help the body increase natural testosterone production.
Like our number one choice, TestoGen also comes in capsule form and also requires you to take 4 capsules per day – however, they also offer instant testosterone booster drops that are designed to give a quick boost of energy, focus and strength – more on those shortly.
The TestoGen brand is well known. Their supplements are manufactured in UK and USA FDA approved facilities and the nutritional profile is made up of 100% natural ingredients. In addition to this, TestoGen have gone to great lengths to research and refine their product with over 25 clinical studies referenced to support the inclusion of each and every ingredient in their capsules.
In each serving you will find 2352mg of D-Aspartic Acid, 40mg of Fenugreek Extract, 10mg of Vitamin D as well as Zinc, Korean Red Ginseng Extract, Boron, Nettle Leaf Extract, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin K1 and Bioperine. That’s 11 key ingredients all included with a very specific intention. Let’s take a look at a few of these in more detail…
D-Aspartic Acid: TestoGen have cited studies that claim the inclusion of the included dose of D-Aspartic Acid can increase testosterone by as much as 42 in less than 2 weeks. This would certainly account for why many users of TestoGen report a real energy boost after such a short period of time.
Fenugreek Extract: Like D-Aspartic Acid, Fenugreek Extract has also been found to help increase testosterone levels by as much as 42% in just 12 days. Studies have proved that taking Fenugreek Extract on a daily basis increases the level of free testosterone in the body as well as relieving the symptoms associated with low T.
Boron: A word on Boron as it is an ingredient that is not included in some of the other supplements we reviewed. Studies have shown that Boron can have a significant positive impact on the levels of free testosterone – with as much as a 28% increase in just one week. It also reduces Estradiol which is a type of Estrogen as well as helps to reduce SHBG levels which in turn will increase levels of free testosterone.
The inclusion of Nettle Leaf Extract is also an interesting one as multiple studies have shown that this ingredient can reduce SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) from binding to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). What this means in layman’s terms is that there will be more free testosterone (usable testosterone) in the body as less of it has bound to DHT – by as much as 67% – so this is a great ingredient to have included.
TestoGen has one of the most impressive ingredient stacks of all those we tested and there is nothing synthetic to be found, everything is chemical free, dairy free, gluten free, caffeine free and soy free.
We found that after using TestoGen for just one week we could start to feel a difference in energy levels and performance in strength based activities started to improve – if only in small amounts. However, after 3-5 weeks the anecdotal differences were vast and increased energy, vastly improved strength performance, improved focus and concentration and an increase in libido were all experienced.
TestoGen have a unique offering with their drops which are designed to give an instant hit of energy and focus – much like a nootropic might do. We tested these and they do indeed give an instant boost – but we are not 100% sure about whether this actually impacts testosterone or if it just relieves some of the symptoms associated with low T.
That being said, they do have their place and it is easy to carry the small bottle around and use when you feel you need it. However, if you are focused on long term results then the TestoGen packages without the instant booster probably offer the best value – with the 3 month supply (plus 2 months free) giving you a good 5 month supply which will be more than enough to give it a real good test. You will likely be back for more and this 5 month package works out at great value for money if buying it upfront.
- Solid clinical studies to back ingredients
- Excellent value for money with long term deals
- Results can be felt in as little as 1-2 weeks
- All natural ingredients
- Booster drops can be useful for overcoming symptoms of low T quickly
- Expensive when buying booster drops too
TestoFuel is another brand that ships worldwide from the UK and USA. It is of course another that we included on our list thanks to it having a completely natural ingredient profile and is another that comes in capsule form (again with 4 per day the standard dose).
There are 9 key ingredients in TestoFuel with one that stands out from the other brands – and that being Oyster Extract. Aside from that you get the usual suspects with D-Aspartic Acid, Fenugreek (seed), Asian Red Panax Ginseng, Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2, Vitamin B6, Magnesium and Zinc all included.
Again, we already know that most of these ingredients are backed by clinical studies (and Testofuel reference some of these themselves) but the inclusion of Oyster Extract is one that should particularly appeal to men who are looking to see an uptick in their libido.
There is a reason why oysters are often referred to as an aphrodisiac. It’s because they are extremely rich in zinc and zinc is well known to increase t-levels.
It is fair to say that Testofuel is a really solid product. However, some of the language they use on the website is pretty sensational which can be a little off-putting. Despite the use of marketing language, they don’t make any wild claims when it comes to the numbers, instead they claim that you can expect an increase in testosterone of around 47%.
Of course, improvements are all relative as to your starting position and everyone is different – but the customer reviews speak for themselves with Testofuel customers offering glowing reviews as to their results.
Before and after pictures from users also speak volumes and in our testing results were felt after a few weeks. It is recommended that if you are buying Testofuel (and most t-boosters) that you commit to at least a 3 month supply and if you do that with Testofuel you will get an extra month free which actually offers excellent value for money on a month by month basis.
Everything is manufactured in FDA approved and cGMP certified facilities and although we prefer the top two on this list, Testofuel is a great alternative to have.
- Oyster extract is an interesting addition with libido enhancing properties
- All natural ingredients
- Ships from UK and USA
- Good value for money
- Sensational language used on website
- Other products have fuller ingredient stacks
Testo-Max is one of a range of muscle building supplements created by the team at CrazyBulk. The brand is well known for creating high quality, all natural supplements designed to help you meet your nutritional goals as well as your physical appearance goals.
Testo-Max is actually incredibly similar in its makeup to TestoGen with many of the same ingredients. However, one major benefit of buying this product from CrazyBulk is that you can stack it with some of their other products for even better results – especially if you are looking to either grow muscle or shred body fat – and that’s because they have specific supplements that will help you with these goals.
Expect to find D-Aspartic Acid, Fenugreek Extract, Vitamin D, Zinc, Ginseng Red Powder, Boron, Nettle Leaf Extract, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin K1 and Bioperine in the natural ingredients list – all of which we have already learned will see you well on your way to boosting your t-levels.
Testo-Max can seem expensive when buying individual bottles but when buying a 3 month supply (1 month is free) the cost is actually one of the most affordable. If you stack it as part of the CrazyBulk bulking, cutting or ultimate stack then it offers even better value for money.
Which is best for you will depend on your goals, but for anyone looking to reap the usual benefits of increased testosterone then Testo-Max is a top choice.
With offices in the UK and USA there is live chat and telephone support available and they ship globally to most locations.
- Live chat and phone support available
- Stacks well with other supplements
- All natural ingredient profile
- Very positive customer reviews
- Expensive for single bottles (1 month supply)
Hunter Test is billed as a high-end premium product, and although most of the supplements we reviewed here are marketed in this way, Hunter Test really does pitch at the highest level. They are part of the Hunter Evolve Group, are based in the UK and USA and they ship globally with their prices being very much reflective of their premium image.
Hunter Evolve only make 3 supplements at the time of writing and this is a testament to their commitment to ‘getting it right’. Hunter Test is classified on their website and product packaging as a ‘high-dosed testosterone booster’ which is somewhat flouncy language for stating that it has a high quantity of each ingredient – this is also reflected in how many daily capsules you will need to take – with the recommended 6 being over and above any of the others we reviewed.
When it comes to the ingredients, as you might expect everything is completely natural and we see the usual suspects with 3000mg of D-Aspartic Acid, 30mg of Zinc, 200g Magnesium, 300mg Asian Ginseng, 300mg Ashwagandha Extract and 10mg of Boron. You also get Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 and Indole-3-Carbinol which is a compound found in the Brassica food family that can inhibit SHBG which in turn gives you more free testosterone.
This is really solid profile of ingredients and the dosage of D-Aspartic Acid is the most generous of all those we tested. The only surprise is the omission of Fenugreek Extract but the addition of Ashwagandha and Boron negate this somewhat.
If you are buying a one or two month supply then this is an extremely expensive product (when compared to the others on our list), however if you buy a 3 month supply you will get an extra 1 month supply for free which does reduce the price per month a little. Still, this is an expensive product – mainly because of how many you need to take – with 180 capsules only lasting one month.
The big question though – does it work?
Our testing had very positive anecdotal results after around two and a half to three months with our tester feeling more energetic, focused and able to lift heavier weights with more reps in the gym. However, taking 6 capsules per day did feel like a lot – but the results were clear.
Customer reviews back that up with very positive comments from real life users and some really impressive before and after pictures. In fact, in this Nugenix Total T review, it even came out as a preferred alternative.
Like any of these products, you won’t get a dream physique without a well balanced nutritional plan and without work in the gym – but for those who feel like low t-levels are holding them back – this will no longer be an issue with Hunter Test.
- Highest dosage of all those we tested
- Excellent all natural ingredients
- Suitable for men and women
- Only t-booster to include Indole-3-Carbinol
- 6 capsules daily is a lot for some users
- Premium price tag
Prime Male Vitality Complex is a testosterone booster very much aimed at men over 40. The reality is that any male over the age of 30 will likely benefit from this product (and the Prime Male website actually states it is designed for men over 30) much of the company’s marketing seems to aim for the older male.
Roar Ambition Ltd are behind the product and although based in the UK, they also have manufacturing premises in the USA and like most of these supplements they can be shipped worldwide.
Prime Male offer two products. The first is the t-booster which is called Prime Male Vitality Complex. The second is Prime Male Enhance and although this is not a testosterone supplement in its own right, it does bring with it some other benefits for aging men. For this review, we will be focusing on the Vitality Complex.
As you are probably figuring out by now, we are all about the natural ingredients in our selections and Prime Male is no exception to this – with 12 all-natural ingredients – many of which are akin to TestoGen, with just a couple of differences.
You’ll find D-Aspartic Acid (of course), Black Pepper, Boron, Korean Red Ginseng, Magnesium, Ashwagandha Extract, Nettle Root, Vitamin B6, Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 and Zinc in the stack – as well as one unique ingredient not seen in any of the other supplements – Luteolin.
Luteolin is claimed to reduce the production of estrogen in the body as it binds to estrogen receptors. The studies on this are far from conclusive though, so although this ingredient will do no harm (and may help a lot) it probably should’t be a reason to discount other brands just because they don’t include it.
What we do know though is that the other 11 ingredients found in Prime Male are all very effective at increasing the body’s ability to create testosterone.
Like most of the t-boosting supplements we tested, you get 120 capsules per month which should be taken as 4 per day. Prime Male is on a part with our top picks when it comes to cost and they have some excellent package deals including buy 3 months, get 1 free.
To see results you should most likely aim to take this supplement for at least 3 months although you can might notice anecdotal improvements in your strength, energy levels and libido in as little as 7-12 days.
There are some good deals to be had if adding the Prime Male Enhance supplements to your order so if you want to reap even more benefits then by all means consider these too. Shipping is fast and customer service is good with email and live chat support available.
- Excellent ingredient profile
- All natural ingredients
- Price is competitive
- Fast shipping
- Some dosages of ingredients are lower than other brands
The final testosterone supplement to make our list is TestRX and although this product does ship globally it is primarily targeted at a US audience and ships solely from its North American cGMP approved facility.
In terms of value for money, TestRX is on a par with most other products but for those who just want to test out a one month supply it is pretty fairly priced compared to the competition. They also offer a 67 day money back guarantee which offers peace of mind.
TestRX has an all natural list of ingredients that will look familiar when compared with the others on this page with 2300mg of D-Aspartic Acid topping the list and then Zinc, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 and Fenugreek Extract all included.
It does’t have the fullest stack of ingredients which is the main reason we placed it last on our list, but it does still offer a really solid profile that will get you results.
We tested this product and our tester felt results quickly with an increased sense of energy and power when working out. Anecdotal improvements in libido were also mentioned and customer testimonials seem synonymous with our testers statements.
TestRX tested and measured t-levels with athletes and found a 30% increase in testosterone over period of 8 weeks. This is pretty incredible in such a short space of time and matches up to what we have seen when testing all of the products listed on this page.
TestRX ran a parallel study with a placebo and this showed a decrease of 10% which further backs up the impact of using their product.
You can get free shipping on most packages and there is 24/7 live chat support on the website which when we tested it was excellent and answered all our questions.
- The results speak for themselves for this product
- Excellent customer service
- Good value for money
- Money back guarantee if not happy
- Not the greatest range of ingredients compared to others
What Ingredients Should I Look For In A Testosterone Boosting Supplement?
D-Aspartic Acid (also know as D-AA) is an amino acid that is one of the most effective ingredients when it comes to boosting T-levels. It works by helping to produce the luteinizing hormone which in turn helps to stimulate the Leydig cells in the testicles which helps to produce more testosterone.
If the supplement did not include D-AA it quite simply didn’t make our list.
Vitamin D is essential to all-round good health and there have repeatedly been links between high levels of Vitamin D and higher levels of testosterone.
One study showed that over a 12 month period simply by doubling the intake of Vitamin D there was a 20.27% increase in free testosterone levels.
Vitamin D also helps to reduce SHBG which in turn helps the body fully utilize the available testosterone.
Another vital ingredient in the war against low T is Vitamin B6. There are a number of studies that link lower levels of Vitamin B6 to low T levels and increased estrogen levels.
In short, Vitamin B6 is an important ingredient to include and we’d suggest choosing a supplement that includes it.
This one is not a deal breaker unless you are really focused on improving how well your body deals with fat. Vitamin B5 is known to help convert fat to energy rather than store it in reserve and can be an ideal addition if body fat reduction is your aim.
There is some anecdotal evidence that it also helps improve T-levels but not enough for us to say that it an absolute necessity.
Green Tea Extract
Green Tea is inherently good for you. But does it really help with T-levels? The jury is out on that one but there is some evidence to support that EGCG found in green tea can help prevent testosterone being broken down in to DHT – which gives it a big thumbs up from us.
Most people don’t get enough zinc from diet alone and it is one of the most potent weapons we have when combating low T. In fact, one study showed that simply by bringing zinc levels up improved T-levels by 50% in just 6 months!
This is a must have mineral in your T-boosting supplement.
The key benefit of nettle leaf extract or nettle root is its ability to decrease SHBG (by as much as 67% according to some studies).
While this ingredient alone will not boost your T-levels, it will help to keep them higher for longer so when used in combination with the other ingredients it is thought it can be highly effective at sustaining higher levels of testosterone for longer.
Boron is thought to have a triple pronged benefit for T-levels. It increases natural testosterone, it decrease estrogen production and it decreases SHBG by as much 33% in just 6 hours!
There is not quite so much information in studies on this ingredient but the limited data available does seem to point towards it being an important addition. Not a vital one, but worth considering.
When considering taking any kind of supplement, it is well worth investigating them as much as possible. Although, everything we have reviewed here on this page is safe for consumption we understand that you might still have some unanswered questions.
Hopefully this FAQ section will answer anything else you need to know.
Do T-Boosters Work?
The T-boosters we have tested and reviewed on this page have satisfied our criteria for efficacy. That is, these testosterone boosters do indeed help the body to produce more testosterone which in turn has a positive impact on overall health.
It should be clearly understood that without a proper balanced diet and adequate exercise, that any supplement will not be as effective as it would be if a good diet and exercise regime are in place.
The majority of ingredients in these t-boosters have been proven in clinically backed studies to improve testosterone production in the body through natural means.
In short – yes they do work.
What Are The Benefits Of Having Higher Testosterone Levels?
The usual symptoms associated with a decrease in free testosterone are feelings of fatigue and lethargy, less strength and stamina, lower sex drive, higher risk of erectile dysfunction and lower levels of concentration and focus.
Having higher levels of testosterone can reverse these symptoms and leave you feeling more energetic, stronger and with increased stamina, improved libido and sex drive, having more focus and higher levels of concentration and can reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction.
These benefits can also lead to having a higher metabolism which helps to burn more fat and the ability to repair and grow muscle more effectively.
At What Age Should I Need To Boost My Testosterone?
The amount of testosterone in the body decreases as we get older. From the age of 30 men will start to see a rapid reduction in the amount of free testosterone in the body.
Most men will not need a T-booster in their 20’s but might consider it at age 30 plus. For most men over the age of 40 a testosterone boosting supplement can be highly effective at reducing the impact of lower t-levels.
Are T-boosters Safe?
All of the supplements we have included on this page are made from 100% natural ingredients and contain no dangerous synthetic substances.
It is however, always a good idea to check with doctor or chemist prior to taking any form of supplementation.
How Can I Check My Testosterone Levels?
Your age will be the biggest determining factor when it comes to your t-levels. Aside from that, if you experience any of the following then it could be an indication that you levels could benefit from a boost:
- Rapid increase/decrease in weight
- Low sex drive/reduced libido
- Feeling of fatigue or constant tiredness
- Severe mood swings
- Finding it hard to build muscle
- Loss of focus or attention
- Erectile dysfunction
You can also have your free testosterone levels tested through a blood sample, however results of these can fluctuate pretty wildly based on a range of factors including time of day of the test, working out prior to the test and more.
When Will I See The Results?
Most of the products we tested recommended using them for at least 3 months. Although most would promise some improvement after a couple of weeks, it is likely it will take 2-3 months on average to see the full impact. This is because the body is having to do the work of producing the testosterone as well as reducing the production of estrogen.
We are looking for long term results here rather than quick fixes which is why the use of natural boosters is so important.
Which T-Booster Is Best For Me?
With so many products on the market it can be hard to know which one is best for you. Whichever product you choose from our list will help in the short, medium and long term if you stick with it. Another option you could consider is Test Boost Max.
However, if you have a specific target in mind then make sure the ingredient profile of that product is suited to your goal. For example, if you want to reduce stress and improve libido then making sure the product has Ashwagandha would be a good idea.
If you are unsure then we would suggest TestoPrime as this has the best all-round balance and an ingredient stack that covers pretty much every base.
What’s The Difference Between Steroids & Natural T-Boosters?
Steroids are synthetic chemicals that are designed to replicate testosterone in the body. Although they are effective on the whole at helping the body to build muscle, they also have a number of negative side effects (including actually reducing the body’s natural testosterone production) which can have long term consequences.
Natural testosterone boosters on the other hand use naturally derived ingredients that actually help the body to produce more testosterone. The benefits when it comes to muscle growth can be similar to steroids but without the negative side effects. There are also a lot of other side benefits to these natural boosters.
